You're right! It is low carb 'pasta'.


I am a pasta addict and so I was so excited to try this!

I was getting sick of the shirataki noodles and its jelly like texture.



So I was on a search for another low carb pasta alternative and found this!


How is this low carb?


This pasta is made with a special ingredient~~

It's not almond flour, not coconut flour but....

Hearts of palm!





Hearts of palm is usually eaten in salads.

Its texture and taste is similar to artichoke.

It is a little bit crunchy and a little bit tangy/sour.








The whole can only has 6g of net carb so it is a perfect addition to a low carb lifestyle!





The texture is not as firm as I thought it would be. The reviews said it was 'al-dente' but it is softer than that.

Even after rinsing, it is still a little sour. If you've had hearts of palm before, it is the typical hearts of palm taste.



But because of the sour taste, I think it goes well with pasta sauce.



The size is roughly the same. It is not as long as a spaghetti but around 8-9cm?







It is not spaghetti but I think it makes a good alternative.

One can is big enough for 2-3 people. At first, just by the can size, I thought it wouldn't contain much but I was pleasantly surprised!

Today's dish is Perilla leaf pesto pasta.


Perilla leaf is a staple in korean cuisine.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to find outside of korean markets.

I have not been able to find it in an asian market.






If you love the taste of perilla leaves, feel free to add a couple more leaves to the recipe.










Ingredients


Hemp seed 1/2 cup

Parmesan cheese 1/4 cup

Avocado or olive oil 1/2 cup

garlic 2

salt 1/2t

Perilla leaves 16g (about 7)

Juice from 1.5 small lemons (about 2T)



Palmini- hearts of palm pasta 1 can

Recipe

1) Blend the ingredients using a hand blender or blender.

2) Pour on top of your choice of pasta

3) You can heat up the pasta or eat as is
