쿨리로치는 조기류 미꾸라지과에 속하는 인기있는 "장어" 같은 물고기입니다.

ㄴ한국인에게는 미꾸라지라는 말이 더 가깝게 느껴지죠 ㅋ

쿨리 로치라고도 알려진 (그럼 kuhli 는 다르게 읽나보죠? ;; ) 이 물고기는 까칠한 눈, 거대한 쿨리로치, 진흙 로치 그리고 표범로치 로도 알려져 있답니다. (그랬군요.. 저는 로치에 관심이 별로 없어서 몰랐네요 ㅎㅎ)

The Kuhli Loach is a small eel-like freshwater popular aquarium fish which belongs to the family Cobitidae under Order Cypriniformes of Class Actinopterygii.

It is also known as Coolie Loach, Prickly Eye, giant coolie loach, slimy loach and leopard loach.

보르네오, 자바, 서 말레이시아, 싱가포르, 수마트라 그리고 태국의 개울에서 서식하는 물고기는 남동아시아에서 거주합니다. 이 녀석은 강이나 산아래 개울의 물살이 느려지는 하류의 모래지대에서 서식합니다.

It originates from Southeast Asia that is indigenous to the streams of Borneo, Java, western Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra and Thailand. It inhabits in the sandy beds of slow-moving rivers and clean mountain streams.

이녀석은 사교적인 편이고 보통 작은 군집을 이루어 바닥층에서 수영하며 살며 장애물 근처에 숨어있는 먹이를 먹습니다. 

It is a social fish and is typically found in small clusters and swim near the bottom where they feed around obstacles. In nature, the Kuhli Loach lives in locations with clear slow moving waters having a sandy bottom.

쿨리 로치는 장어같은 모양의 몸통에 살짝 옆구리가 눌린 듯한 모습을 가집니다. 입 주변에는 4쌍의 촉수가 돋아있습니다.

The Kuhli Loach has an eel-shaped body with slightly compressed sides. The mouth of the Kuhli Loach is surrounded by four pairs of barbells.

지느러미는 작은편이고 등 지느러미는 2/3 지점에 있으며 꼬리 부분에 아주 가깝습니다. 10~15개의 어두운 갈색에서 검정색 세로 줄이 몸에 있으며 그 줄들 사이에는 연어색 핑크 혹은 노란색이며 배쪽으로 가면서 연해집니다.

The fins are small and the dorsal fin is located on the lower third of the body much closer to the tail. 10 to 15 dark brown to black vertical bars are present on the body and the gaps between vertical bars are salmon pink to yellow with a light underside.

눈은 투명한 피부로 덮여있습니다. 길이가 7센티에 달하면 성어가 됩니다. 최고 10센티까지 자라나며 10년까지 생존하는 녀석들도 있습니다. 

The eyes are covered with a transparent skin. It reaches sexual maturity at 7 cmin length. It grows up to 10 cm in length and can live for up to about 10 years.

쿨리 로치는 바닥에 서식하는 녀석으로 부드러운 지대에 스스로의 몸을 뭍습니다. 수컷에 비해 암컷들이 일반적으로 더 큰편이고 좀더 무겁습니다. 완전한 성어가 된 수컷은 암컷보다 확실이 두껍고 가지가 있는 가슴 지느러미를 가지고 있습니다. 야생에서는 매우 얕은물에 공동으로 알을 낳습니다. (아.. 안시도 수컷 한마리에 암컷이 여러마리 낳는 것 같은건 가보네요)

The Kuhli Loach is a bottom dweller that burrows into soft places. Females are generally larger and heavier-bodied than males. Mature males have a clearly thicker and branched first ray of the pectoral fin. In the wild, the fish spawn communally in very shallow water.
